Bookbinding workshop: “Book of feelings”
Bookbinding is a craft with a long tradition. A bookbinders’ guild was active in Vilnius as early as the 16th century. The secrets of traditional bookbinding have survived to this day thanks to generations of bookbinders passing down their knowledge and skills.
Vilnius University Library invites young visitors to take part in an educational workshop where they will discover the art of traditional bookbinding, create their own personal books and decorate them with Renaissance ornaments. Similar decorations can be found on surviving books that once belonged to Sigismund II Augustus, Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland, some of which are preserved in the University Library.
Children will be able to fill their books with their own emotions and feelings. Vilnius University Library’s conservators and bookbinders Žilvinas Bražukas, Rimas Supranavičius and Sigitas Tamulis will show them how.
The workshop is intended for children aged 7 and above and will last approximately one hour.
Registration opens soon.
